Believe it or not, but Osteoporosis can be prevented, and in light of World Osteoporosis day, we want to share some tips on how you can prevent it:
1. Regular exercise will keep your bones and muscles healthy.
The most effective exercises include resistance training aka lifting weights, which strengthen your muscles and joints, along with balance and coordination training.
2. A bone-healthy diet.
Make sure your diet is rich in nutrients that help your bones stay heathy, such as Calcium, Vitamin D and protein.
3. Lifestyle
Maintaining a healthy body weight, and cutting out drinking and smoking will go a long way.
4. Medical Advice
If you have had fractures in the past, take medications that may affect your bones, or if you have family history of Osteoporosis, then seek advice from your doctor about what you can do next.
5. Test and Treatment
If you are at risk, then you may need to incorporate the above measures to ensure that you have a fracture-free future.
